The primary objective of this project is to implement and extend the self-heating vibrothermography NDT technique for detecting and localizing damage in plate-like (2D) composite structures made of polymer matrix materials. The project consist of theoretical analysis of the phenomenon of self-heating during resonant vibrations, numerical simulation of the self-heating effect to support the experimental studies, and finally experimental validation of the technique used on plate-like structures with damage. Within the project, appropriate damage quantification algorithms are developed to enhance detectability of damage as well as quantify identified damage.
